Virserum Art Museum will open its doors to its fourth major exhibition on wood and sustainability in May 2013.
WOOD 2013 will see the Architecture of Necessity play a bigger role in the international triennial for sustainable community building. The terms and conditions for the next round of the Architecture of Necessity will be presented in the second half of 2012. WOOD 2013 will also feature an in-depth presentation of the wood architecture of the future. Cutting edge architecture from all over the world will be exhibited, as well as new ideas in organic high-tech biologically grown building materials, casted wooden houses and more. Wood as a material will get a new significance in the future.
In 2013, Virserum Art Museum will open a dialogue on the gestalt of the sustainable society. How do we live, how do we organise ourselves, what are our priorities, what are our relations, what is our culture? The aim is to establish visions and scenarios for the future, beyond the present status quo, where we strive for sustainability but are to scared to see the need for a paradigm shift.
During the course of previous exhibitions, a number of colleges and universities have participated. In 2010, Chalmers University of Technology showed up with some 40 students from 15 different countries, who together designed and built two wooden structures on the Art Museum grounds. Students from the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University exhibited city planning projects, and the event was co-arranged by Linnaeus University.
Virserum Art Museum is now inviting architecture, design and engineering colleges and universities to participate in WOOD 2013. The Art Museum is open to most suggestions, but we’re mainly interested in exciting wood constructions for our grounds, as well as future scenarios within the theme of the gestalt of the sustainable society.
