GLOBO DOWNTOWN in Milan

The new Globo showroom on the central Corso Monforte is set to open with a display by Giulio Iacchetti during the Furniture Fair

While the primary function of the showroom is to confirm brand identity, the Globo showroom due to open on 17 April aims to convey its vocation for innovation and its capacity for self-renewal in the wake of the company’s ideas and designs, thereby making them accessible to all.

Globo is coming to Milan and will establish its headquarters in the heart of the city, inside the prestigious Palazzo Rasini. Here, on Corso Monforte, which has become the city’s most famous design street thanks to the presence of the most prestigious showrooms, Globo intends to express the very best of its Italian design.

And this is exactly what it will be doing during the 2012 SALONE DEL MOBILE with a display by Giulio Iacchetti.

On the ground floor, GLOBO DOWNTOWN, which provides the name for Globo’s general event, draws inspiration from the art show concept, in which the showcase is deliberately kept neutral in order to allow the content to talk: Globo’s most important products will be the absoluteprotagonists of the space, with washbasins and bathroom fittings on display as they have never been seen before, resembling soft white sculptures on austere bases and telling an unpredictable history of industrial product design, art and fascination.

On the floor below, characterised by its bare brickwork ceiling, GLOBO DOWNTOWN evokes a fantastical and complex sculptural complex, a metaphor for the modern metropolis, packed with unforeseeable and unpredictable architecture created using Globo products.

“The city sounds and film images that recreate classic overviews of the world’s cities work together to create and complete a magical atmosphere in a space just waiting to be discovered,” explains GiulioIacchetti. The objects on display include creations by Giulio Iacchetti, Luca Nichetto and Creative lab+.

With its shop windows just a short distance away from Piazza San Babila, the area in which the boutiques of Italy’s most important design brands are all concentrated, the new showroom puts itself forward as a multipurpose container in which to experience and discover Globo.

The space has been developed as a showroom, but also as a location for events and temporary exhibitions, as a meeting and training place for round tables and seminars and as a technical/design consultancy area, conceived in order to generate direct dialogue with architects and designers, as well as with those in the trade who look this way from all over the world in order to keep up-to-date with the latest innovations and to guess future trends.

Facts
Palazzo Rasini, inhabited by princes and noblemen until the bombing during the Second World War, was restored in the early 1970s. The restoration work uncovered 17th-century coffered ceilings, 18th-century stuccos and an ovoid brickwork compartment used to contain snow in the winter during the 18th century. The granite columns in the courtyard can be attributed to the period during which the property was part of the Church of San Babila. The squared block pillars were once part of the stables. The original entrance to the building used to be on Vicolo Rasini.
