The future illuminated
Last May, on 21st, 22nd and 23th, it was held the 30th edition of «Light Fair International» in Philadelphia, USA, with the topic: «The synergy of light in life» to celebrate 30 years: 1989-2019.
This exhibition covered from the classical lighting systems to the latest innovations in lighting fixtures and lighting control systems.
This 30th edition focused on the advantages of the LED in:
1. Agriculture: development of horticulture.
2. New technologies:
• DALI-2 (improved vesion of previous DALI)
• IoT (Internet of Things)¹ remote lighting control systems that use WI-FI or Bluetooth with wider radius that also include HVAC and lighting in the same system.
• Improved road lighting, stadium lighting and retrofit fixtures for previous metal halide.
3. Comfort: circadian cycle regulation through colour temperature changes in the same luminaire (tuneable white).
LED lighting fixtures with tuneable white (changing colour temperature from warm white to cold white) provide the possibility to change the ambience of the area to be illuminated and adapt the colour temperature as per the sought atmosphere. This, in addition to help to the circadian cycle, gives flexibility in the design, to adapt the colour temperature to any possible change as per the fit-out, in the same luminaires without replacing them.
Some stands took the attention of the visitors, for being the first time in this fair and others for their innovation and evolution through the time. One distinguished was IALD stand (International Association of Lighting Designers) that turned fifty (50) years. Also IES stand (Illuminating Engineering Society) was part of the exhibitors. The presence of associations in this kind of events, reinforce the unity, with the intention of grouping and sharing knowledges and experiences of the professionals in the field.
In addition to the manufacturers of luminaires and lighting control systems, services providers related to the lighting project and services related to testing of the lighting products in compliance with international codes were present.
This fair showed a synthesis of the technology development in the lighting field. Furthermore, three aspects were reinforced: products, services and associations in complete interaction, making successful the lighting project.
El futuro iluminado
Durante los días 21, 22 y 23 de Mayo de 2019, se llevó a cabo en la ciudad de Philadelphia, USA, la 30ma. edición de la importante feria de iluminación «Light Fair International» con el tema: The synergy of light in life (la sinergia de la iluminación en la vida), celebrando así treinta años: 1989-2019.
La exposición abarcó desde los clásicos sistemas de iluminación hasta las más recientes innovaciones en temas de luminarias y sistemas de control digital.
Esta edición se enfocó en los aportes del LED en:
1. En el tema de agricultura: en el desarrollo de la horticultura.
2. Nuevas tecnologías:
• DALI-2 (mejorando la versión DALI anterior)
• IoT (Internet of Things)¹ sistemas de control de iluminación remotos empleando el WI-FI o Bluetooth con nuevos radios de alcance e incorporando climatización (aire acondicionado) e iluminación en un mismo sistema de control remoto.
• Nuevos alcances para iluminación vial y de estadios, así como sistemas retrofit para luminarias que antes usaban halogenuro metálico.
3. En el tema de comfort humano: en la regulación del ciclo circadiano a través de los cambios de temperatura del color (tuneable white).
Las luminarias LED con temperatura de color cambiante, desde el blanco cálido al blanco frío, conocidas también como luminarias «tuneable white», permiten cambiar la atmósfera del espacio iluminado y adaptarlo según el ambiente que se desee crear. Esto, además de favorecer al ciclo circadiano, permite flexibilidad en el diseño adaptando la temperatura del color a posibles cambios en colores de mobiliario o ambientación, en una misma luminaria sin necesidad de reemplazarla.
Varios stands llamaron la atención de los visitantes, algunos por ser expositores por primera vez en esta feria y otros por su trayectoria e innovación. En especial destacó el stand de IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) asociación que cumple cincuenta años. También estuvo presente el stand de IES (Illuminating Engineering Society). La presencia de asociaciones en este tipo de eventos, refuerza la labor de unir, agrupar y compartir conocimientos y experiencias de los profesionales en el área. Además de los fabricantes de luminarias y sistemas de iluminación, también destacó la presencia de proveedores de servicios relacionados con proyectos de iluminación así como servicios de pruebas para certificaciones de los productos en cumplimiento con códigos internacionales para su instalación.
En conclusión, en esta feria, además de mostrar una síntesis de los avances tecnológicos, se vio reforzada la trilogía: productos, servicios y asociaciones en un ambiente de interacción, lo cual garantiza el éxito de un proyecto de iluminación.
¹ IoT refers to the connectivity of equipments of any type of use, in this case related to lighting, with softwares and sensors that allow to connect and exchange data through internet from a mobile phone, with the advantage to be controlled remotely, as well as improve the performance and control the electrical consupmtion.
¹ IoT se refiere a la conectividad de equipos de cualquier uso, en este caso referido a la iluminación, con softwares y sensores que permita conectar e intercambiar data a través de internet desde un teléfono celular, con la gran ventaja de poder ser controlados y monitoreados a distancia, así como optimizar su rendimiento y controlar su consumo eléctrico.
