Studio 44 (Russia) in collaboration with WEST 8 (The Netherlands) have won the International Competition for the Architectural Landscape Design Concept for the Tuchkov Buyan Park.

Organised by the DOM.RF Foundation and the City of Saint Petersburg on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation, the competition has been long in the making. According to Vladimir Grigoryev, the Chairman of Urban Planning and Architecture Committee and Chief Architect of Saint Petersburg, the original city master plan “included the idea of central city park design along Malaya Neva river from Peter and Paul Fortress to the Gulf of Finland coastline. Today we discuss the significance of the landscape and its integration into a holistic system in an urban environment.”

The international jury composed of former UNESCO Assistant General Director for Culture and architect Francesco Bandarin (Italy), botanist Patrick Blanc (France), city planner and landscape architect Ken Smith (USA), Professor of Urbanism Lawrence Barth (UK), Landscape architect and UIA representative Stefan Rotzler (Switzerland), architect Vladimir Grigoriev (Russia) and architect Sergey Choban (Russia) also selected 2 finalists:

JV Vogt (Switzerland in collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron (Switzerland)
Khvoya (Russia) and KARAVAN landskapsarchitecter (Sweden)
The jury selected the three winners from among 8 preselected teams invited to submit designs. 229 teams from 50 countries applied to participate.
