The Living Places – Simon Architecture Prize, an initiative of Simon curated by Fundació Mies van der Rohe since its creation in 2016, opens the call for entries for its sixth edition, coinciding with the celebration of its tenth anniversary. Consolidated as an international reference, the awards this year are also part of the agenda of Barcelona 2026, World Capital of Architecture.
This award is distinguished by incorporating video as an essential tool for communicating architecture projects, including interiors, public spaces and landscaping, whose excellence enhances spaces’ ability to provide comfort to their inhabitants. These works improve the quality of people’s day to day lives: for working, for learning, for sharing, for having fun; it is architecture to be experienced!
The call for entries will remain open until 14 September 2026 and allows the registration of projects from all European countries, as well as Mexico, Brazil, and as a new participant this year, Morocco. The applications can be submitted through the website simonprize.org. The jury of this edition is made up of: Doctor of Architecture, author and curator Fernanda Canales, president of the jury; architect and creative director of the Mesura studio, Benjamín Iborra; cultural manager and member of the selection and programming committee of the L’Alternativa independent film festival, Sesi Bergeret; architect, editor of RZUT and co-founder of PROLOG, Wojciech Mazan; and industrial designer Salvi Plaja, Global Chief Design Officer of Simon and president of FAD (Promotion of Arts and Design).
“Caçador de Geometries”, the film opening the new edition
To start this sixth edition, the awards present the short film Caçador de Geometries (Geometry Hunter) directed by filmmaker and audiovisual creator Matilda Vidal de Llobatera, winner of the award for Best Audiovisual Narrative in the previous edition.
Filmed in the Les Feixes building, designed by architect Josep Maria Pla i Torras, the film proposes a poetic and documentary approach to the relationship between landscape, space and architecture. With an aesthetic that pays homage to the visual universe of Wes Anderson, the piece follows a character obsessed with geometry, straight lines, symmetry and pure forms, who during the story discovers a new way of looking at the world. The building, built with a hexagonal form as appearing in nature, acts as the central setting of this visual exploration of perception of space.
